A Light Came On
by Kevin Darnell on April 24th, 2025
I have made the difficult decision to discontinue “Words for Wednesday”.  So next Wednesday, April 30th will be the last one.  I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to read these posts. Years ago when Sonya and I surrendered to the ministry, we put our house on the market and sold it ourselves.  One trick that we learned from a realtor friend was to change all of our light bulbs fro...  Read More

Worth Repeating
by Kevin Darnell on April 16th, 2025
Whenever God repeats something in His Word, I think it is important that we pay attention to it.  During the Last Supper, after Judas left the upper room, Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.” (John 13:34).  In John chapter 15, we find that Jesus has led the disciples out of the upper room and began the lo...  Read More

So-Called “Common Sense”
by Kevin Darnell on April 9th, 2025
There is an old story about a man who hiking alone up a cliff on the side of a mountain when he lost his footing and fell.  Fortunately, there was the root of a tree sticking out from the cliff and he was able to grab it and hold onto it.  As he was hanging there, he called out for help but there was no one to help him.  So He called out to God and said, “God please help me!”  A voice responded ba...  Read More

Who Are You Following?
by Kevin Darnell on April 2nd, 2025
When my brother, Darren, was a teenager, he went on a mission trip to Haiti with my Mom and Dad and several other people from our church.  At the airport at Port Au Prince, they were picking up their luggage and Darren somehow followed the wrong crowd of people and ended up outside of the airport.  Realizing his mistake, he tried to re-enter only to be surrounded by armed soldiers.  My Dad tried d...  Read More

More Than Just Miracles
by Kevin Darnell on March 26th, 2025
As you read the Gospel of John, you can see that the teachings of Jesus were profound and mind blowing.  At the death of Lazarus, Jesus told Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.” (John 11:25-26).  He said to Nicodemus, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son tha...  Read More

Nothing Better than Experience
by Kevin Darnell on March 19th, 2025
A few years ago there was a humorous meme floating around the internet of a picture of an electrical panel.  In front of the electrical panel were two burned spots on the floor in the shape of footprints.  Evidently the electrician elocuted himself.  The caption read, “Help wanted!  This time, experience required.”  This was a joke, of course, but it has a note of truth as there is nothing like ex...  Read More

Numbered with Us
by Kevin Darnell on March 12th, 2025
The last words of the Old Testament speak of a prophet who will appear and prepare the way for the Messiah to come.  These words are found in Malachi 4:5-6 which state, “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I ...  Read More

The Trinity
by Kevin Darnell on March 5th, 2025
The word “Trinity” is not found anywhere in the Bible. However, it is found everywhere in the Bible.  From beginning to end, all three are mentioned individually, as a couple, and all three at one time.  Individual persons but one God.  Equal in divinity.  That is the Trinity. The word “Trinity” is just a simple one word explanation of stating 4 sentences: 1)    God is one 2)   The Father is God 3)  ...  Read More

Attitude
by Kevin Darnell on February 26th, 2025
I remember going fishing with my Dad when I was younger.  We were at a reservoir that rented boats and my Dad took me out on the lake.  We fished several different places and we didn’t even get a nibble.  After a couple of hours, I became very frustrated.  My Dad turned to me and said, “Well now we can really start fishing since now we know where the fish aren’t.”  His positive attitude changed my...  Read More

The Positive and Negative
by Kevin Darnell on February 19th, 2025
It was a great pleasure to have Pastor John McGuire preach this past Sunday and continue our sermon series on “Labor of Love”.  I would like to reiterate something that he said in that message. A rare Greek word for love is “agapeo” which refers to a selfless, sacrificial, unconditional love. The New Testament frequently uses it to explain God's love for people as well as the love that believers ar...  Read More

You have to be plugged in
by Kevin Darnell on February 12th, 2025
Back in the 1970’s, a large company had purchased around 100 state of the art electric typewriters.  A few weeks after purchasing them, a thunderstorm came up in the middle of a working day.  The building was struck by lightning and every single one of those brand new electric typewriters was fried.  It took weeks to replace them and productivity at the company slowed down to a snails pace. One Fri...  Read More

Fireworks at the Beach
by Kevin Darnell on February 5th, 2025
The warm weather this week has reminded me of summer and trips to the beach.  I love the nighttime on the beach when people shoot fireworks over the ocean.  I love the way that they rocket way up into the night sky and plummet to earth leaving a fiery trail.  When they hit the water, they disappear.  The vastness of God’s great love is like the ocean that extinguishes the flames of our wrongdoings...  Read More
